Wood Family Update — June 2, 2013

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! I would like to update you all on the past week of ministry here in Cambodia. A team from Medical Missions Outreach was hosted by Missionary Stephen Benefield, a good friend of ours, for four days. Little did I know how tiring it would be. Nevertheless, we had a great time as the team treated the sicknesses of the people. There were people registering, taking blood pressure, treating ailments, preaching the Gospel and preparing/distributing medicines. We were able to take part in a number of those. A total of 818 patients were seen.

On the first day of the clinic, the Lord had a couple—a mom and son—ripe for the harvest. While they waited to be registered we shared the Gospel with them, and both of them called upon the Lord to save them. To have people ready to be saved after only one meeting is really rare here. The reality is that the Lord has been doing a long work on this couple. They told us how some of their family members had become Christians in the rural provinces. They had seen them and heard them reading the Bible to them. So, ours was a only a small part. In total, hundreds upon hundreds received literature about the Gospel and heard a witness from the mouth of a believer. It was great!

The clinic was not without some sad stories, however. One lady was told for the first time that her 1 year old son had Down Syndrome. Another lady had to be told that she had contracted Tuberculosis from her child. Nevertheless, there were silver linings. One family brought in their young child who had been sick for 2 weeks. When he saw the doctor, he was severely dehydrated, and was in the process of respiratory failure. We saw a group of Christians selflessly offer themselves and their belongings to get this child to a hospital. Long story short, the child, though just a couple hours from death, was saved by the work of the doctor/nurses and by the never-ending mercies of our great Lord! Praise the Lord.

Here are some pics of the clinic.

Come Sunday (today) when a sickness that I had apparently picked up from the clinic came to full fruition, it was time for church back home. Actually, though, it was a great service in which people seemed to be helped of the Lord. Thanks be to God. It is Sunday afternoon now, and we are looking forward to the evening service.

As for our upcoming trip to Thailand to have Joshua’s neck examined, it is still on schedule. We are due to leave on Monday, June 10, and return the following Saturday. Thank you all for your prayers, both for the trip and the (hopefully non-surgical) treatment. Please keep them coming.

This whole week, this verse has floated around my head many times: As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith (Galatians 6:10).

In Christ,
